Alpha Tau Chapter

Established 2010

Who We Are

Phi Iota Alpha's mission is to develop leaders & create innovative ways to unite the Latino community. Our fraternity's roots extend from the late 19th century to the first Latino fraternity & the first Latino student organization in the United States.

Our brotherhood is composed of university and professional men committed towards the empowerment of the Latin American community. We do this by providing social, cultural programs & activities geared towards the appreciation, promotion & preservation of Latin American culture.

Alpha Tau Chapter History

In the Spring of 2010, the University of California, Santa Barbara colony of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was established. Since then, it has contiued to grow not only in numbers, but in campus and community involvement as well. The Alpha Tau chapter continues to uphold our pillars' ideals of Pan Americanism: the unification of Latino America and its people.

Upholding this belief, we have hosted and collaborated with many campus organizations, fraternities, and sororities on campus that seek to break the barriers of race, class, and ethnicity through the promotion of unity by embracing, sharing, and educating others about our Latino heritage and culture.

At our 79th Year Convention in Miami, Florida (summer of 2011), it was announced that the colony in Santa Barbara had earned their chapter status and thus became the Alpha Tau Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Since then, the Alpha Tau chapter has received multiple recognitions and awards from UCSB and the Fraternity. They have been granted awards such as the Community Service Award, Chapter of the Year at UCSB, and Chapter of the Year fraternity national level.
